Composition: How to better compose your shots
Sunday, March 14th
noon-5pm
Pasadena, CA
$100
I'm hosting a workshop on composition of photographs. Along with lighting, and bringing the best out of your subject, composition is one of the most important aspects of photography. It can make the difference between an okay picture and a great photo. The workshop will be held outdoors, and we will have a model present to shoot.
We will discuss various aspects of composition, including (but not limited to):
-placement of your subject in the frame
-your subject’s relationship with the background
-filling the frame
-using negative space appropriately
-cropping in camera
-shooting at angles
-wide angle vs telephoto
-using lines in your surroundings to draw attention to your subject
-close ups vs wide shots
-head room
We will be shooting with various backgrounds. I will do a demonstration with each background, discussing creative ways to view the locations. I will shoot several different compositions (some good, bad, and mediocre), then show the photos to the class on a computer screen. We will discuss aspects of the compositions, what works and what doesn’t, and what to watch out for. After each demonstration, students will have time to shoot. I will be looking over students work through out the day and giving direct feed back.
Students will be encouraged (but not required) to shoot in full manual mode, so as to have maximum control over shutter speed, aperture, and iso.
